LOGOS School Receives $40,000 from Bayer Fund to Continue its Bright Start Breakfast Program

St. Louis, Mo., July 15, 2020 – LOGOS School received a $40,000 grant from the Bayer Fund to continue its Bright Start Breakfast program. Since 2015, LOGOS School has provided a balanced and healthy breakfast to every student to ensure they are ready to start every day with the nutrition needed for academic and emotional success. This program, utilized by approximately 90 percent of students daily, has proven to be a critical resource for families, many of whom live below the poverty threshold. Additionally, the impact on students has been profound. When the program was established teachers and therapists reported a reduction in behavior incidents during morning hours and increased student focus on classwork. All of the funds from the Bayer Fund grant will be used to purchase nutritious, high-quality food for the program.

“We all know eating breakfast is the most important way for students to start their day, and many of our students, who come from across  the bi-state region, have come to depend on the breakfast they receive at LOGOS,” said Head of School, Kathy Fenger, Ph.D., “We are excited to have the funds to continue this essential program and so thankful to the Bayer Fund for their support of our students education through  health and nutrition.”

The LOGOS School Bright Start Program began in January 2015. Once the initial funding ended, LOGOS self-funded the program and then received private funding for one additional year. Without assistance from the Bayer Fund, the program would have been in jeopardy. These funds will ensure LOGOS students will never have to skip breakfast and experience the negative consequences hunger can cause while at school.
