PTSD Awareness Day on June 27: You Are Not Alone

PTSD Awareness Day on June 27 is an important reminder that trauma can affect how students think, feel, learn, and connect with others. It is also a reminder of something just as important: no student has to face that experience alone.

For young people living with post-traumatic stress disorder, everyday school life can feel overwhelming. Concentration may be difficult. Trust may take time. Emotions can rise quickly, and what looks like withdrawal, distraction, or defiance may be a nervous system trying to stay safe. Schools that understand this can make a meaningful difference.

At Logos School, support goes beyond awareness. Logos describes its approach as trauma-responsive, meaning the school does not simply recognize the effects of trauma, but builds that understanding into daily practice, relationships, therapeutic programming, and classroom life.

A trauma-responsive school environment is centered on safety, trust, empowerment, peer connection, and cultural sensitivity. At Logos, that whole school commitment is designed to help students develop skills, regulate emotions, build resilience, and re-engage with learning in a way that feels possible and supportive.

This matters because PTSD can deeply affect a student’s school experience. Logos notes that students struggling with trauma may appear disengaged, distracted, or defiant when they are actually operating in survival mode. The school also emphasizes that emotionally safe environments can improve focus, strengthen relationships, and support academic progress.

Logos serves students in grades 6 through 12 and provides individualized academic and therapeutic support in a non-traditional setting. Students receive their own therapist, at least one hour of individual therapy, and two hours of group therapy each week, all within a program built to support educational, behavioral, and emotional needs.

For families, PTSD Awareness Day can be a chance to pause and ask an important question: what kind of environment helps a child feel safe enough to learn and grow? In some cases, the traditional school setting may not be the right fit. Logos highlights that smaller class sizes, personalized support, and integrated mental health services can help students rebuild confidence and reconnect with school.

At its core, this day is about recognition, compassion, and hope. PTSD is real, but so is healing. Supportive relationships, therapeutic care, and a responsive school community can help students move forward with greater confidence and stability.

At Logos, every day is a new day. For students navigating trauma, that message matters. It means healing is possible, support is available, and no one has to walk that path alone.
