Since 1970, Logos School has served over 2,000 students through a proven model that has helped adolescents who may have otherwise been left without options in school, and sometimes, in life. With the skills they learn at Logos, our students are given a chance to realize their potential and to fulfill their hopes and dreams for a successful future.Logos School delivers a rigorous education to grades 6-12 while providing unconditional therapeutic support and care to help students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. Autism Spectrum Disorder

What is autism spectrum disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder is a complex developmental condition involving persistent challenges with social communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behavior.

What are the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder?

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder have problems with social communication and interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests.
Each child with autism spectrum disorder is likely to have a unique pattern of behavior and level of severity.

How many specific disorders are on the autism spectrum?

There is now a single diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder that replaces the different subcategories that were used previously – Autistic Disorder, Asperger's Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

Anxiety

How to calm anxiety?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects behavior. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse.

Do I have ADHD?

If 6 or more symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity have been present for 6 or more months and they are inappropriate for their developmental level, for children 17 and over it is 5 symptoms instead of 6.

Bipolar Disorder

What is bipolar disorder?

Bipolar Disorder is a mental health condition that causes unusual shifts in a person's mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration. These shifts can make it difficult to carry out day-to-day tasks.

Bipolar means a person has a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity level, concentration and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.

What causes bipolar disorder?

It is mostly explained by heredity, although genes are not the only factor and there is not one specific gene that causes the disorder.

How common is bipolar disorder?

1 in every 100 and most commonly diagnosed between the ages of15-19 and rarely after 40.

Depression

What is depression?

Depression is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities such as sleeping, eating, or working.

What are the signs and symptoms of depression?

Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood

Eating Disorders

What is an eating disorder?

Eating disorders are serious illnesses marked by severe disturbances to one's eating behaviors. Those with eating disorders become fixated on or obsessed with weight loss, body weight or shape, and controlling their food intake.

Low Self-Esteem

What is low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is when someone lacks confidence in who they are and what they are capable of doing.

The characteristics of someone with low self-esteem manifest in many different ways. The symptoms include depression, sadness, avoiding social situations, negative comparison of self, difficulty accepting compliments, low mood, and general neglect of emotional needs.

Why does low self-esteem intensify the impact of the various influences on teen decision-making?

Teens with low self-esteem look to others to guide, suggest and validate their decisions. They need approval from others because they lack confidence and doubt themselves.

Oppositional defiant disorder is a disorder in a child marked by defiant and disobedient behavior to authority figures.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

What is trauma?

Trauma is an emotional response to a traumatic event like an accident, rape or natural causes. Shock and denial are typical responses.

How does trauma AFFECT the brain?

The brain shuts down all nonessential systems and activates. The sympathetic nervous system and the mammalian brain help us respond to trauma. The brain reacts in fight or flight response mode.

What is childhood trauma?

Serious adverse childhood experiences like abuse and neglect.

An attachment an abused person feels for their abuser especially if it is a cyclical pattern of abuse.
